Students are introduced to the core concepts of operating systems, such as processes and threads, scheduling, synchronization, memory management, file systems, input and output device management and security. Students perform a general survey of operating system concepts. Course concepts include synchronization of processes, inter-process communication, deadlock, multiprogramming and multiprocessing, scheduling, resource management, overlays, relocation, virtual memory, file systems, logical and physical I/O, device allocation, and process/ resource protection. Students will develop computer code and programs.
